Which airport for Western NC?

AVL, GSP, CLT or ATL: how to choose, and how to plan the ride once you land.

Home › Guides › Airports

Quick answerAsheville Regional Airport (AVL) is the closest airport to Asheville. Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP) can work well for travelers heading to the Upstate and some parts of the Blue Ridge, while Charlotte (CLT) and Atlanta (ATL) are large hubs with longer drives. Pre-book your ground ride whichever you choose.

AVL: closest to Asheville

For most Asheville trips, AVL is the simplest choice because it is close to town. Flight options depend on your home city and airline, so check schedules before you plan on it.

GSP: the Upstate option

Greenville-Spartanburg is a good fit when your trip is toward the South Carolina Upstate or the southern edge of Western NC, or when fares and schedules work better. Ask us for a quote from GSP.

CLT and ATL: big hubs

Charlotte and Atlanta offer many flights, but the drive to the mountains is longer. A pre-booked private ride makes a long drive after a long flight much easier.
